Goals: 1) Understand five target vocabulary per group
2) Improve listening and speaking proficiency of colloquial English.

The activity for the lesson was a role-play. Students were placed into groups and each group was given a scenario and five words they were required to use in their role-play. Students were informed that after each role-play another group would have to describe what took place in the role-play. The rationale behind this was two-fold. Firstly, it should improve the speaking ability of the presenting group as it required them to speak loudly and clearly. Secondly, it should improve the listening ability of each group as they were required to actively listen to every role-play so they could later describe that role-play.

Time was allocated for the groups to prepare a script. During this time students were supervised and guided in the creation of their script to ensure appropriate vocabulary and correct grammar was being used. Each group was provided an opportunity to role-play in front of the class.

After every role-play one group was asked to provide a description of the role-play and another group had to come up with one follow-up question. A verbal quiz on the target vocabulary was then conducted. This was to ensure every group truly understood the meaning of the target vocabulary. Finally, feedback was provided on areas of improvement in relation to pronunciation, grammar, syntax, diction and presentation skills.
