Identifying Needs and Wants By Mr. Kelvin Ragudo

Needs include things like food, clothing, housing, sunlight, air, and water that are essential to our survival. While some are given away for free, the majority must be bought. Conversely, wants are the items we want in order to improve the comfort, ease, and enjoyment of our life. Examples of these items include ice cream, vehicles, cellphones, air conditioners, and even cars.

In relation to this, Ms. Willailuck Nuntachalagroragit and Master Kelvin Ragudo, the social studies teachers at Assumption College Samutprakarn (ACSP), taught Primary 2 (P2) pupils in the Modern Language Program about this topic.

Prior to the discussion, the students participated in a warm-up exercise in which they were shown pictures of people in various settings and asked to point out the necessities for each person in the pictures. The purpose of this activity was to assess the students' prior understanding of the material they would be learning. The primary 2 pupils responded quickly with their suggestions as a result.

Since most of the students were paying attention and already knew a lot about Needs and Wants, the actual session went smoothly. They were even able to distinguish needs from wants and give simple examples to support each concept.

In order to reinforce their knowledge of the subject matter, the students completed an activity called "Identifying Needs and Wants" in class. In this activity, they had to select an item from a box, determine whether it was a need or a want, and then place it in the appropriate paper bag.

Video clips and other teaching materials were also used to teach the concept. At the end of the lesson, students took a short quiz to assess their understanding.
