Making Chinese Vocabulary Come Alive through Visual Learning

In a recent Chinese language class, Matthayom 1 students took part in an engaging vocabulary lesson designed to make learning new words more meaningful and enjoyable. Instead of relying on direct translation, the lesson used carefully selected images to help students understand new Chinese vocabulary in a more natural and immersive way.
During the lesson, each new word was introduced through a clear and vivid picture, encouraging students to observe, make connections, and respond directly in Chinese. This approach reduced students’ reliance on their first language and helped them build a direct link between Chinese words and their meanings.
To reinforce learning, students participated in interactive activities such as “Look and Say” and picture-and-character matching games. Through guided practice and individual responses, the teacher was able to check understanding and support students’ confidence in using Chinese.
Teachers observed that visual-based learning increased student engagement and confidence in using Chinese, creating a lively and student-centered classroom atmosphere.
