Topic: Creating a Timeline of World War II

For this activity, the students created a timeline of the major events of World War II from 1939 to 1945. Doing this helped them understand how the war started, progressed, and ended by organizing important moments in chronological order.

The timeline begins in 1939 when Germany invaded Poland, which caused Britain and France to declare war on Germany, officially starting the war. In 1940, France fell to Germany, and the Battle of Britain took place, where the UK fought off German air attacks. Then, in 1941, Japan attacked Pearl Harbor, leading the United States to join the war. Some key battles they included are the Battle of Stalingrad and Midway, which were turning points in Europe and the Pacific, respectively. In 1944, the Allies launched D-Day, a huge invasion that helped free Western Europe. The war ended in 1945 when Germany surrendered, followed by Japan's surrender after the atomic bombings.

Creating this timeline helped the students see how each event was connected and how the war changed over time. It made them realize how important each battle and decision was in shaping the outcome. Overall, this activity gave the students a deeper understanding of World War II and why it is such a significant event in history.
