On Wednesday, July 2, 2025, ACSP EP and Dusit Thani College held a culinary training workshop with an international theme, “Opening the World of Japanese Food Careers.” This activity was conducted for Secondary 4 and 5 students. The workshop not only broadened students’ culinary horizons but also deepened their appreciation for international cultures and professional disciplines.
The workshop was led by esteemed culinary instructors from Dusit Thani College together with Miss Amornpan Seesuk, who generously shared their expertise in Japanese cuisine, with a particular focus on the art of sushi preparation. Students were guided through a comprehensive learning experience that included: an overview of the historical and cultural significance of sushi, introduction to essential ingredients and their preparation, techniques for cooking authentic Japanese rice, methods of wrapping and rolling sushi, and principles of aesthetic presentation and decoration. Throughout the session, students engaged in hands-on practice under the close supervision of professional chefs, ensuring both safety and skill development.
This initiative provided students with a multitude of educational benefits. These included development of practical life skills where students acquired culinary techniques that are applicable in everyday life and potentially valuable in future professional endeavors. Cultivation of focus and precision which helped them gain knowledge about the intricate nature of sushi making and fostered attention to detail, patience, and cleanliness. Next was cultural enrichment as students gained insights into Japanese traditions, lifestyle, and etiquette through the lens of culinary arts. Lastly, career motivation and enhancement of collaborative skills wherein students are exposed to experienced chefs which can inspire them to consider careers in the food and hospitality industry, as well as group based activities which encouraged teamwork, creativity, and effective communication among peers.
