ACSP EP Primary 6 Lab: Separating Different Mixtures

Last week, the students in Primary 6 experimented with separating different mixtures with their Chemistry teacher, Ms. Libna Pareja. The laboratory activity had two learning objectives: to demonstrate how to apply the mixture separation techniques based on the properties learned previously and to assess students' understanding of those techniques while performing them.

The students were divided into groups and tasked with exploring the different stations. Navigating each station, the students had to perform different mixture separation techniques to understand which was the easiest and hardest to separate, and identify heterogeneous & homogeneous mixtures.

Through this activity, the students enjoyed learning & understanding the importance of physical and chemical properties, performing different mixture separation techniques, and linking them to real-life applications such as materials engineering and pharmaceuticals.
