S5 Chemistry Fair: Acid and Base Food Festival

Last week, the S5/8 students showcased their creativity and knowledge at the S5 Chemistry Fair: Acid and Base Food Festival, organized by Ms. Leah Balbada and Mr. Pongsapak Kovanitcharoen.

Each group made impressive presentations of their chosen food items, effectively explaining the chemistry theories behind them and their practical applications. Throughout the event, students demonstrated excellent handling techniques and innovative approaches to preparing their favorite dishes. They explored how the acidic or basic components in their food influenced its flavor, aroma, and appearance. They effectively applied at least one theoretical framework (Arrhenius, Bronsted-Lowry, or Lewis) to explain the acids or bases present in their selections.

Judges evaluated the students based on four criteria such as punctuality, teamwork, attention to detail, and safety considerations. The event not only allowed students to savor delicious dishes but also provided a valuable opportunity to deepen their understanding of chemistry concepts in a fun and engaging way.
